MKUltras Chef Form - 10mm Milos Mixed Media Editions

The 10mm Milos beads have become a sought after AO2 classic, in pretty much every material we’ve produced them in. The size of the beads is versatile, and the shape gives them a terrific feel that works great for bead counting and raindrops. They also have a nice stability on the string, offering a pleasant consistency and predictability of movement that helps during tricks and manipulation.

The “Chef’s Special” style form factor is an intermediate setup, situated somewhere between our standard short form and long form MKUltras. In this style, we use a long form length of cord, but with an intermediate number of beads, resulting in greater exposed cord. This format is fantastic for flipping as it allows enough cord space for finger rolls and a balanced weight for flipping in packets or from the end beads. For these Milos editions, we’ve used 27 of the 10mm Milos, and closed them off with a stacked 11.8mm and 15mm titanium boss arrangement.

Acrylic

Our 10mm Milos have become an enduring favourite. They’re extremely versatile and just work great in every material we throw at the design. This month we’re offering up a few new options to the lineup including three striking new acrylic colourways alongside a first for the Milos range: 10mm Sheep Horn. All four options are configured in our Chef’s Special arrangement, offering a versatile setup that sits neatly between our Short Form and Long Form MKUltra styles.

The acrylics are available in three distinctive limited-run colours. A fresh Mediterranean-inspired blue with subtle green undertones, a vibrant turquoise swirl reminiscent of the semi-precious stone, and an unusual mossy blend that shifts from near-black through deep greens to bright yellow. These acrylics are produced in small batches, and because the material varies from run to run, these colours are unlikely to be repeated once they’re gone.

Sheep Horn

Joining the acrylics for the first time in the 10mm size is Sheep Horn. The design excels in this material, the beads are large enough to show off the elegant variations of the material, and the lightweight beads provide ample mass for smooth manipulation while retaining the warm tactile character that makes natural materials so enjoyable to handle.
Each set is strung in our Chef’s Special configuration, designed to be worn double-looped around the wrist with a short exposed section of cord for manipulation. It transitions easily from wrist to hand, making it well suited to everyday carry and dedicated practice.

Delrin

The delrin beads feature a smooth, polished finish and maintain the classic warm feel and gentle clack associated with this beloved material. The wood beads are done in a raw machine finish highlighting their grain exposure and natural feel–the finish will evolve beautifully over time and the colours will tend to darken over time.

General Info on the MKUltras

The MKUltras are a hybrid design, combining elements of traditional Mala and Komboloi beads. The MKUltra name gives a nod to this lineage, as well as their expedience as tools to help us focus our minds and still our thoughts. They can be used in a variety of ways, ranging from quiet bead counting, through to raucous flipping.

The unique setup of the MKUltras allows them to be worn like mala beads, or carried discretely in the pocket. They adjust by means of a simple friction fit through the larger "Boss" bead closure. Although the design is exceedingly simple, we're fairly confident you won't find anything quite like them around. This is a knotless system, and does not require any special lock bead. The cord is simply compressed when threaded through the Boss bead, providing a reliable, secure fastener, that is easy to adjust when needed.

In this way, the Ultras can be worn on the wrist, or loosened and slid up above the elbow to keep them out of the way when needed. Excess cordage can be knotted loosely around the Boss bead when they are worn on the wrist, or left dangling. This modifiable arrangement allows them to be used very quietly, for simple bead counting used in breath work and meditation, to "raindrop" methods marked by the satisfying, rhythmic clacking of the beads, as well as much more physical methods of manipulation which resemble short game begleri play. While they aren't intended as a highly technical skill toy, there are still a solid range of moves you can link together, and lots of ways of working with them.
